Breast cancer gene test and health insurance
There are a number of treatments women use to prevent breast cancer. A test that is spoken about quite often is the BRCA1 and BRCA2 gene tests. Research has shown that these two genes are linked with aggressive hereditary breast cancer.
Because these genes have been identified, women who want to know if they have the possibility to develop breast cancer can have the test to determine if they indeed have the mutated gene. The decision to be tested for the BRCA1 and BRCA2 can be a difficult one. Recently, I read an article that indicated that women who are at high risk for breast cancer can still produce a negative result for the two tests. Unfortunately, a result of negative for these to gene mutations does not exclude you from developing breast cancer. What the result says is you do not have these genes. You could still be at risk for developing breast cancer from another mutated gene. Now that we know the benefits of how it can help women, how do you get it and have it paid by your health insurance plan?
